What is Caribbean Community Day?
According to NationalToday’s website Caribbean Community Day was created in 1973, “On July 5, 2001, the CARICOM heads of government signed a revised Treaty of Chaguaramas during the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Conference held in Nassau, The Bahamas.”
The importance of this day is that twenty countries in the Caribbean are working together to help each other to overcome economic and political challenges such as poverty, unemployment and social exclusion.
How do Latinos in the Caribbean celebrate this day?
Since the Latino community is a very unique and diverse group of cultures, traditions and heritages. This day is celebrated in Latino countries such as; Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.
There are various forms of celebrating this day including the Annual Caribbean Day festival that took place on June 10th at the Hamilton Grange National Memorial in New York.The festivities include food, music, dancing, to honor the beautiful culture of Caribbean countries.
