Baseball legend Roberto Clemente is the subject of a new documentary. The History Channel has announced a new documentary about the baseball icon named “Clemente” that will air on September 23rd at 8PM on The History Channel.
The History Channel has also released a trailer for the film that highlights not only Roberto Clemente’s impressive work on the baseball field, but his impact beyond the world of baseball as well.
The new documentary will feature Roberto Clemente’s sons Roberto Clemente Jr, Luis Clemente and Roberto Enrique Clemente speaking about their legendary father along with archival footage and family photography.
Other notable Latino figures included in the documentary are Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and Puerto Rican icon Rita Moreno.
Roberto Clemente was a World Series MVP who won two World Series Championships with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Beyond his storied career in baseball, he was also a dedicated humanitarian, known for his work across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Roberto Clemente tragically died in a plane crash while providing humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua in 1972. His legacy lives on in the MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award, which is given out every year and honors the player that, “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.”
