As an avid book reader, this is my favorite day of the year. I have loved books ever since I was old enough to read. My mom was the one who encouraged my love for reading and books. We used to go to the public library and go to story hour. While on the weekends we’d go to Barnes and Noble at the mall, sit in the children’s section and read for hours.
Reading is my escapism. It’s how I decompress. It is my inspiration to create my own short stories and it’s what fuels my career aspirations of becoming an author one day.
National Reading Day was created to share the excitement about reading with children and inspire them to participate in the activity.
Every year educators, bookshop owners, and book publishing companies like Scholastic, Penguin Random House, and Simon and Schuster show their support and encourage readers to join them in celebrating this day by sharing posts on their social media accounts.
The power of reading can change the world. In particular, the beloved Harry Potter franchise started off as children’s books that became an eight-movie series, with a prequel movie series following the last film. A theme park was created to bring the magic from both the books and the films to life. Countless merchandise is sold at stores and online shops around the world, and it all started from one person’s imagination.
