DC Comics fans are getting a first taste of “Blue Beetle” film. Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the upcoming “Blue Beetle” film. Xolo Maridueña stars as Jaime Reyes, the third person to take up the mantle of the Blue Beetle in the DC comic books.
In the trailer, Jaime receives a mysterious alien scarab in a fast food container during a job interview. The scarab attaches itself to Jaime’s body and transforms into a super suit, a subversion of the classic comic book trope.
The film features a predominantly Latino cast, starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”) as Jaime’s grandmother, Nana, Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”) as his father, Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films) as his mother, Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”) as Jenny Kord, Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”) as Carapax, with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”) as Victoria Kord, and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises) as Jaime’s Uncle Rudy. The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) as Jaime’s sister, Milagro, and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”) as Dr. Sanchez.
Once the trailer was release the responses were nothing short of excitement:
Blue Beetle is gonna be the first DC movie I’ve seen in a whiiiile.
Always gonna support more Latine superhero rep.

Blue Beetle was initially envisioned as an HBO Max film, but Warner Bros. upgraded it to theatrical in late 2021. It is slated for Aug. 18.
