Mother’s Day is a day designated to shower our mothers with love to express our gratitude for all they have done for us, and to recognize them for their hard work and unconditional love that they show us every day.
We remember their familiar dichos like, “sana sana” when we are sick. We remember the unforgettable meals of arroz y frijoles because “hay comida en la casa.” Whether you celebrate May 10th as celebrated in Mexico or May 14th in the United States, we can agree that our moms all deserve capes for being our superwomen.
I never really got a clear picture of what it was like to be a mother until I became one. We don’t understand the sleepless nights when our child is sick until it happens.
We discover the unique way that our child likes their favorite foods prepared. We embrace the movie and pizza that become the tradition to look forward to on Friday nights.
We learn what it means to be constantly worried and filled with anxiety. I never quite understood what it took to be a mother and at times I still don’t, despite having the name, “mom.” Being a mom has given my life a new meaning.
On this day, we need to give credit to all of the moms for their resiliency and painstaking selflessness.
Everything that I am and everything I hope to become in the future is because of one person. She is my role model, my cheerleader, my best friend, my hero, my mom. Until I was thirteen years old it was just me and my mom. Throughout those years she taught me the importance of independence, family, compassion, and self-love.
Now twenty-five years old, I carry the lessons that she’s taught me. I hope that one day when I have my own children I am the type of mom that she is.
Mothers do so much for us and this is the one day a year where they’re shown appreciation for all that they do for their children and for their families. They hold us when we’re scared, hug us when we cry, and put us first over everything.
A lot of the time we often forget that mothers go the extra mile to make sure their children and families are secure that they can be overlooked. Mothers are superheroes and they deserve all the praise, recognition, and gifts in the world.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms in the world from all of us here at TodoWafi!
