The historic music/entertainment venue the Conga Room is set to open its doors for the final time on March 27th. The Conga room has been around for 25 years and was a spotlight for Latin music in the Los Angeles entertainment scene. The farewell night will be hosted by actor and longtime investor of the Conga room, Jimmy Smits. The night will have many stars and acts performed for the final time, all in one exciting night. The Conga Room has been very influential in shaping the Latin music scene in Los Angeles since its opening in 1999. After relocating the venue to L.A. LIVE in 2008, the venue has hosted countless musical talents, from Justin Timberlake to Bad Bunny, showcasing diverse music genres.
Along with its musical events, the Conga Room has also played a vital role in the community through initiatives like Conga Kids. Founded in 2016, Conga Kids aims to empower children through dance and music, reaching over 50,000 students annually in Los Angeles and Orange County. The Conga Room brought Latin music to the forefront, presenting both international and local artists in an intimate and upscale setting,” said founder Brad Gluckstein. “It also became part of the cultural fabric of Los Angeles, hosting cultural, political, and community events for a quarter of a century. As we celebrate the closing, we pass the torch to Conga Kids to continue the mission of bringing music and arts to our communities.”
As the Conga Room bids farewell with the star-studded VIP event, it continues its legacy through Conga Kids, a non-profit organization that empowers confidence and self-expression in children. Founded in 2016, the program currently reaches roughly 50,000 elementary students per annum in largely under-resourced communities in LA County by integrating social and emotional well-being and an inclusive curriculum through dances and music of the Afro-Diaspora (such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, Charleston, and hip hop).
