Our Special Guest – Kamilah Mercedes Valentín Díaz
Kamilah Mercedes Valentín Díaz is a Boricua with Indigenous, African, and Spanish ancestry, born in Puerto Rico, and living in the diaspora in the United States. As a child she was always interested in the written word and oftentimes found herself escaping to fantastical worlds. She would craft and share wild stories for anyone who would listen. As she grew, she began writing randomly with unfinished works scattered about in multiple journals. It wasn’t until 2021 that she realized her writings weren’t random; they were poetry.
Kamilah now identifies as a self-proclaimed poetisa, and is in the process of writing her first poetry collection for publication with Alegria Publishing. Morivivi: To have Died, yet Lived, in confessional style poetry, will cover her mental health journey, themes of identity and womanhood, and her beloved Puerto Rico.
If you are interested in following Kamilah on her journey towards publication and other adventures she can be found on Instagram through the handle @kams_conchispas.
