Sheila Escovedo, known as the amazingly talented percussionist, Sheila E, became the first Female Solo Percussionist to Receive a Walk of Fame star on Thursday. Her career has included working with numerous artists such as Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and of course, Prince. Her work with Prince led to their “Purple Rain” recording sessions, including her vocals on the 1984 classic “Erotic City.”
From there, she became a solo performer with iconic songs such as “The Glamorous Life,” and “Strawberry Shortcake.” She was just five years old when she knew she wanted to be a percussionist, following in her father’s musical footsteps. We congratulate Sheila E for paving the way for being the first to receive this honor and recognition.
