Actress Penélope Cruz spoke with PEOPLE magazine about her new role as Laura Ferrari in the 2023 biopic Ferrari. This focuses on how Enzo Ferrari (played by Adam Driver) organized a dangerous race (known as the Mille Miglia) Across 1,000 miles of Italy to save himself and his wife Laura from bankruptcy. The Mille Miglia ended in tragedy as the Ferrari’s car “spun out of control and flew off the road, instantly killing de Portago and his co-driver Edmund Nelson. Tragically, nine spectators were also killed—five of them children.”
She recalled a moment in her childhood that left her scared to drive.
“My sister was run over by a car in front of me when I was eight or nine. It was a great trauma because I saw her losing consciousness. And I was numb in the hospital, telling people, ‘Oh, my sister just got run over by a car.’”
Everyone is scared of something but the important thing is not to let fear rule over your life.
Cruz also shared with PEOPLE, “It’s been one of the main things I deal with in therapy: how to work a balance so I can keep feeling those things without making those feelings my own,”
You can see Penélope Cruz in Ferrari playing in theaters right now.
