One of the many topics that is overlooked and underrepresented is individuals with disabilities, specifically those who are visually impaired or blind. I’d like to highlight the remarkable individual who is working towards educating others about the importance of embracing those with disabilities.
Catarina Rivera is an advocate for individuals with disabilities. She is a public speaker and an entrepreneur whose business BlindishLatina; a public speaking and DEI consulting service’s primary focus is on educating others about disability awareness.
During an interview with Nasdaq Catarina spoke about how businesses can be more accommodating for individuals with disabilities, “While many companies and organizations have DEI plans, many of them don’t include disability. Oftentimes, companies and organizations don’t understand that disabled people are the largest minority group. My business helps companies begin or continue their disability inclusion journeys to create better workplaces for everyone.”
Catrina and her team at BlindishLatina have made great progress for individuals in the disabled community but their work isn’t done yet.
She shared the exciting plans that she has for her business, “My company will also be doing a lot of work to advocate for accessible travel, including content creation, brand partnerships, training, and speaking.”
We can all learn a lot from Catarina and her business. What is important to remember is that people with disabilities are just like everyone else, they might navigate the world differently, and that only makes they’re journey much more beautiful because they’re able to overcome many challenges and still keep going.
