Brazilian activist and Indigenous leader Alessandra Korap has been awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize After years of witnessing the devastation, the mining company Anglo American had done to the rainforest of the Sawre Muybu territory. Alessandra Korap has organized a campaign to protect the natural beauty of the rainforest surrounding her home.
In a recent interview with DemocracyNow, she reflected on the success of saving more than 400,000 acres of rainforest, “It was a huge victory. We realize that we are like little ants. When the little ants join forces, we get stronger. And we got stronger until we won the battle against Anglo American.” Alessandra Korap also took to her Instagram to share the announcement of her win and show the public that she is going to continue her work protecting the environmental community in Brazil and isn’t going to let anyone or anything stand in her way.
