Powerful Latinas in the Entertainment Industry

There is so much talent in young Latinas in the Entertainment Industry today. We are going to highlight 10 Latina entertainers and all they have accomplished and what’s more to come.

  1. Jenna Ortega

Jenna Ortega is a 20 year old Mexican/Puerto Rican actress who got her fame from Disney Channel back in 2016. Since then, she has been in many successful movies, such as X and Scream. She also just starred in Netflix’s Wednesday, which many are still raving about today. She has 39.4 million followers on Instagram with many following every post. Keep a lookout for her new movie, Scream VI, now playing in theaters.

 

2. Xochitl Gomez

This name came into the public eye recently last year. Xochitl Gomez is a 16 year old Mexican actress who has been on Netflix’s The Babysitter’s Club and guest starred on Disney Channel, but more recently had her claim to fame just last year. She starred in Marvel’s blockbuster hit, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. She starred alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, winning the movie of 2022 at the People’s Choice Awards.

 

3. Rachel Zegler

Rachel Zegler, a 21 year old Colombian singer and actress, was brought into the spotlight after attending an open call casting looking for Latina actresses for West Side Story. She booked the role, winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy for her performance. She has two movies on the way as well, The Hunger Games: The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes in 2023 and Disney’s live-action Snow White in 2024. 

 

4. Camila Cabello

 

Camila Cabello has become a well-known name in the music industry these past few years. The 25 year old cuban singer first was noticed from being a member in a pop girl group, Fifth Harmony. She decided to go solo and debuted her first album in 2018, where she reached number one on the Billboard Top 100. She also took into acting in 2021, where she was in Amazon Prime Video’s Cinderella. Camila has also been a coach on The Voice, sharing the skills she has learned these past years.

 

5. Alexa Demie

Alexa Demie is a 32 year old Mexican actress who has been getting talked about these past years. Some movies she has starred in are Mid90s in 2018 and Waves in 2019. However, the talk has been coming from HBO’s Emmy-Nominated show Euphoria. This show, along with Alexa, sparked conversations all over social media like Tik Tok and Twitter, being the most tweeted television series in the decade.  

 

 

6. Ana de Armas

Ana de Armas is an incredibly successful Cuban/Spanish actress at 34 years old. She started coming into the public eye for her performance in Knives Out back in 2019, where she was nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes. Since then, she has starred in many films, but her performance as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde is her most recent and accomplished work. From this performance she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, being the first Cuban woman ever to do so.

 

 

7. Kali Uchis

Kali Uchis is a 28 year old Colombian singer and songwriter. She released her debut album in 2018. She released a Spanish album, Sin Miedo, in 2020, where she hit number one on the Billboard Top 100. She won a Grammy back in 2021 for Best Dance Recording. In 2022, she opened for Tyler the Creator on his Call Me If You Get Lost Tour, where she has written and sung many songs with the famous artist.

 

8. Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has been in the spotlight for the longest, but she is still on the rise. The 30 year old Mexican artist, actress, and producer has been acting as early as 2002 in Barney and Disney Channel shows.She formed her own Production Company in 2008, where she more recently was an executive producer for Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why in 2017. She also is an award winning artist, with 6 Latin Music Awards and 2 Grammy nominations. Selena is a social media phenomenon being the 3rd most followed person on Instagram with 380 million followers. In 2022, she released an intimate documentary called Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me. 

 

9. Camila Mendes

 

Camila Mendes, is a 28 year old Brazilian actress who has been getting more recognized these past years.She debuted her first big role in 2017, starring in CW’s Riverdale. From then on, she has stayed in the public’s eyes, starring in multiple netflix films from 2019-2022. She has quite a social media following, with 26.8 million followers on Instagram and 3.5 million on Tik Tok. The most recent film she starred in was Netflix’s Do Revenge in 2022.


10. Sofia Carson

 

Sofia Carson is a 29 year old Colombian actress and singer who first got started on Disney Channel back in 2015. She also made her musical debut in these films as well, being on the soundtrack for Disney’s Descendants. She has released singles on her own as well. More recently, she was in Netflix’ Purple Hearts in 2022, a romance/ musical film that was extremely successful on the streaming service. She also was on the recording for that film’s soundtrack, which went viral on social media.
